YAAAAAAAAAWWWWWNNNNN... what day is it..?

Time.. it's been a while, a loooong while since i've created a blog. i feel like Rip Van Winkle waking up from a nap.

In the time that I've been away from blogging, my darling husband has purchased probably over a dozen more clocks - alarm clocks, mantle clocks, alarm clocks that come in these nicely decorated little wooden boxes that make them suitable for placing on the mantle.. oh and lets not forget watches... wrist watches and pocket, both.

i keep trying to tell him that no matter how many clocks he purchases, he can't buy time...i suppose i could be wrong, especially if it's the thing that makes him happy.

well.. i'm off to see what the world has in store for me today...

I have a life is good t-shirt that has a drawing of a glass containing some sort of liquid and has written on it, "half-full". Right now, my life has a different rhythm to it. Oscar (my husband) is working 12 hour graveyard shifts.. with, apparently no off days. The good thing is, he is available to pick the kids up every day and get them started on their homework. The rough part is, I get home from work just in time to say both hello and good-bye. The good thing is, we will use the "extra" money to pay taxes, etc......

It helps right now to remember the good things about this schedule... like weekends when I have time to spend with family...

I am ever-thankful of all the many, many blessings in my life.

(funny thing about the fortune... treasure what you have... but, play the lottery, anyway)

Meet Lucky

Lucky is a new addition to our... living room... he was my Christmas surprise! (Don't you just love his face?)

Lucky once lived at a shop on 19th street in the Houston Heights, called Casa Ramirez (nice people). Oscar (my hubby) and I met him there about a month ago, while purchasing a different pig - a metal folk art one. When asked what it would cost to take the "miracle pig" off the proprietor's hands, and told the amount... my reaction was.... "oh" (as in oh my goodness, you must be very proud of him).

Well, a little time passed, and my husband and I returned to Casa Ramirez, considering a lay-a-way payment plan for the "miracle pig", only to discover that he was gone! oh well, it just wasn't meant to be, said I. Sra. Ramirez explained that there had been a couple interested in the pig... oh that was you... and that a lady had come in and snatched him right up.

Later, as we stopped for coffee... I turned to Oscar and asked him to put me through a little test next time I consider a purchase and don't go through with it. I asked him to ask me if I would be disappointed if I were to return later and find that the item was gone. Yes, I was disappointed that the miracle pig was warm and cozy in someone else's home... not really like me, at all. I usually do not get so attached to material things... (besides, if you want something badly enough, you can usually find another one somewhere - something tells me that there may not be another miracle pig like this one)

anyway... Christmas morning arrives... and sometime during the eve', so did Lucky! (my husband had truly surprised me.. it takes quite a bit of sneaky planning to put one over on me... )

Now, for the background information... Lucky is covered in tiny silver milagros... read below...

This photo was taken at one of the best, in my opinion, antiques stores in Houston, August Antiques. The store is located at Heights Blvd. and 8th Street. I had taken a photo of the entire scale, with horrible success... apparently, I can only capture objects one portion at a time.

As I studied this photo, I fell in love with this little bird and its "perch" which looks very much like a ruler. Long story, short... we got a great deal and "Birdy Scale" made its way to a new home last week. He now sits in the center of our kitchen table, weighing bananas in pounds and ounces.

This aqua mason jar sits above our sink, along with a wooden rooster and hen, a vintage (antique?) scale, a green bottle, vintage salt and pepper shakers, an apple peeler, an old metal powder cleanser canister, a plastic tray, the campbell's soup kids dolls, and a yellow pie bird vent... and that's just what I can see seated on the sofa.

I think it's time to find a use for this beautiful jar, made of aqua colored glass. How would you use it?
